Recipe Tuesday: Ombré Rose Cake

For the next few weeks I am going to be doing a series on Tuesdays showing different (and fool proof) recipes. I brought this cake into my dad's office yesterday and it was a hit (my Dad actually works across the street from the Capitol- it was kind of funny having to put a cake through the security scanner).

The other day was a rainy Sunday and in the madness that is the Target baking isle, Katy and I came up with doing a rose (through apparently it's called a "rosette") ombré cake. Let me just tell you, there are few things better than good school friends, baking Disney Pandora. What kind of surprised me was how easy (and impressive!) this cake actually was to make. All you need are the ingredients on the left and this video on how to make the roses.

Of course, a couple of tips so you can learn from my stupidity experience.

-Always start bottom to top (it allows for the roses to have something to lean on when layering them)

-Make sure to have a lot of icing on hand for this- though we originally started out with two, we needed three to get it all done

-Clear out your refrigerator before you start icing the cake to prevent the icing from melting (and even though it's the toughest thing in the world, make sure the cake is cool before frosting it

-Remember that red food coloring is very strong. Start off with the tiniest amount and then build up the color

-When in doubt, always add more icing

Follow these instructions and you're done! Hope you enjoy!

Happy Tuesday! Hope you have a wonderful day!
