I think everyone's mom has that one recipe that they make whenever their kid comes home from college...before telling them that they have gained weight (in a subtle way of course) just kidding but my mother has her caramel brownies. She rarely makes them and they are actually to bring back for my friends. Nonetheless, here is her recipe- there is definitely a tricky part when layering the brownie, but you really can't mess this up.
1 Box of German Chocolate Cake Mix (apparently this is very hard to find)
1 14 oz can of evaporated milk
1 bag of caramels (make sure to take the
6 oz chocolate chips
3/4 stick of butter
Set the oven to 350 degrees.
Melt the 1/3 of the 14 oz can of milk (~5 oz) and caramel over a double broiler, and add the melted butter and rest of the milk to the cake mix.
Layer a thin layer of the cake batter to a greased glass pan (12 x 8 inches) and bake for 5 minutes. Then sprinkle the chocolate chips, caramel sauce and cover in the rest of the batter and bake for 30 minutes.
Though I doubt you will have as cute of a helper, I hope you try it out and enjoy! Also for all school friends, I have a lot of brownies to get rid of...
Happy Columbus Day!
