You know that one girl who is always put together in class? That is Colette. She is absolutely adorable and has the best looks for being polished without looking like you're trying too hard. After having a class with her a few semesters ago I always had her on my list of students I wanted to profile. In addition, she also interned for Martha Stewart Wedding over the summer- a total dream. I finally got to get her insight on dressing for class, interning and style influences from growing up in New York.
Major: Interdisciplinary Study of Math and Economics
Activities: Tour Guide, HR Director of Kappa Alpha Theta, Ski Team
What are your go to outfits for interviews and class?
Go to interview outfit: a button down shirt tucked into a wool skirt (my go to skirt is probably the J.Crew wool skirts) with tights and boots. I definitely dress more conservatively for interviews, nothing super loud or distracting.
Go to class outfit: jeans, boots, a sweater or blazer.
How has growing up in NYC shaped your own style?
I think NYC has forced me to find a balance between preppy and the typical all black outfit. I definitely stick more to the preppy side but I think more subtly. I'm a big fan of smaller, discreet monograms and quieter patterns which I think is a result of living in NYC.
What was your experience like interning for Martha Stewart Wedding over the summer and what was your favorite thing you did?
It was an amazing experience, I learned a lot and worked on a handful of projects that really made my internship more than just about weddings. Interning at Martha Stewart is an experience unlike any other because everyone there is so creative and passionate about their work. My favorite thing I did was working on the Tiler Peck Robbie Fairchild wedding. Its in the current issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. They're both principle dancers in the New York City Ballet. It was just a beautiful wedding and I'm so happy that I got to work on it.
