One of the benefits of having parents that have worked in the same place for years is that you get to know their colleagues as family. Kirsten is a couple of years older than me and one of my favorite people in the office. Not only is she super sweet, but she also has amazing style. While being home I thought I'd get her opinions on D.C., dressing for work and advice for making the college-to-office transition.
School: Alumna from Chico State (and an ADPi!)
Office: Congressional Foreign Affairs Committee
Wearing: Boots from Cole Haan, Tights and Skirt from the Loft, H&M Sweater, Michael Kors Watch, J.Crew Necklace and Kate Spade Bag
Location: Eastern Market (Capitol Hill)
Favorite Places to Shop?
I love Nordstroms, J.Crew and Zara and the Loft, which has work wear at great prices.
Advice for how to take the transition from college-wear to work-wear?
Whenever I go shopping I think of things that I can wear to work and on the weekends. In the winter I like to buy chunky sweaters that can pair well with any skirt and dresses that you can wear with tights and heels and then casually with boots. There is a whole new mentality that you get when you graduate college and are working in an office. Blazers are great for dressing up any outfit.
How would you describe life in D.C.?
It's a young energetic town (in Forbes it had the most activities per capita) and there is always something going on. I like to think of it as the classier, cleaner, more charming neighborhood of New York.
As a resident of D.C. what are some places they should go?
There is a cash only place called Jimmy T's, a local diner that has good, cheap local breakfast food. I love Hank's Oyster Ba, Le Diplomat and Peregriene Coffee Shop.
Thanks so much Kirsten! Happy Friday!
