When I was in Girl Scouts, a phrase that we always used that I really took to heart was "leave a place better than you found it." This usually was in regards to cleaning up crafts and keeping our camping grounds clean, but it also applied to the rest of life as well.
Earlier this week, Jackson made a statement about the number of homeless people that he saw on the streets. We decided to make a plan to make and deliver lunches together before I left for Boston. We put together bags of sandwiches, apples, bars and notes and spent the afternoon driving around Arlington. Though I was told that it would be hard to find enough people to give out all 10 bags, an hour later, we had given them all away. Not only was it a great bonding activity, but one of the most rewarding activities I've ever done.
I am in no way trying to post this to say "look at us," but more as a reminder that it only takes a little bit of time and effort to make a real difference. The quote "to the world you may be a person, but to a person, you may be the world." For that moment, we made huge difference to that one person. And it felt pretty good.
Have a great weekend and go spread some good in the world!
